A late morning shooting in Canada forced officials to put Ottawa’s entire Parliament Hill on lockdown.
Authorities said at least two gunmen entered the country’s capital building shortly before 10:00 a.m. and opened fire in the foyer. About a minute later, shots were heard in a hallway or near the entrance to the Parliament’s library,
A witness reported seeing an overweight man about 5-foot-10 inches, wearing a dark jacket and white scarf over his face running with a double-barrelled shotgun after the shooting. That person was later seen leaving the scene of the crime in a purple Toyota Corolla with no license plates.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported that a soldier who was standing guard at the memorial was shot. The condition of that guard was not available at press time.
Reports say Prime Minister Stephen Harper is safe and has since left Parliament Hill.
