An 18-year-old Long Island, New York, man was killed early this morning in a single vehicle accident while driving his friend’s luxury vehicle.
Police said Samuel Shepard was driving his friend’s 2010 Lamborghini in Mount Sinai around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he lost control of it on Country Road 83 near Route 25A.
They said the vehicle hit a guardrail before splitting in half.
Shepard, a recent high school graduate, was rushed Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
His passenger, Michael Power, a family friend and owner of the vehicle, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities said speed played in role in the accident. They also said Shepard was not wearing his seatbelt and 49-year-old Power was belted in.
