An 18-year-old NYC man is being held by police after his 29-year-old roommate died from head injuries he suffered during a fight.
Quentin Capobianco told police he was only defending himself when he struck his older roommate, Jesse Smith, in the head with a hammer during a fight in their upscale Queens apartment. Capobianco said Smith had accused him of damaging a wall and furniture.
He said his roommate of five months wanted him to liquidate some stocks to reimburse him for the damages that were caused by a fireplace in their Astoria apartment. Capobianco said after he refused to give him the money, Smith, a lawyer, brandished a gun and tied up him for eight hours with zip ties.
Capobianco said after sometime he was able to free himself and attack Smith with a hammer.
Smith, who lived in the luxury Exo building at 26-38 21st Street alone before renting a room to Capobianco to help him with his bills, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Police charged Capobianco with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
