The NYPD said they have a man in custody who they believed killed his wife and her lover while they were having sex in a parked car.
Police charged Steve Whittingham with one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree murder in the deaths of his wife, Jonelle Barker, and her lover Jerome Barrett.
They said Whittingham pulled out a knife and stabbed Barrett several times before stabbing his wife.
A naked Barrett, who worked with Barker as a baggage handler at JFK Airport, then fled the scene of the crime, with his clothes in hand, to the Spring Creek Towers on Louisiana Avenue near Seaview Ave, where he collapsed just outside of the building’s entrance.
He died a short time later.
Sometime before 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Whittingham surrendered to police. He told officers where to find his wife.
Barrett’s naked body was found in the trunk of her car, a Kia, parked on New Lots Avenue.
Barrett’s brother, Benjamin told reporters he had planned to see his brother this weekend in Virginia for their father’s funeral.
Their father died of cancer last week.
